Evaluation of Apprentices (Completing the SMJATC Evaluation Form)

Scheduled upon request, this evening class will cover the purpose of the evaluation form: how to score the evaluation form, the criteria for evaluation, and approaches for discussion during the evaluation process. In addition, there will be an overview of the responsibility a Journeyman has in training an apprentice on the job. Contact the Apprenticeship office to schedule this class.

CLASS CANCELLED - Lighting Control Skills Upgrade

Class cancelled due to low enrollment. This class builds on the CALCTP fundamentals of low voltage lighting controls for commercial application. Students will be required to have a working knowledge of lighting control language and understanding of components. This class is for a maximum of 24 hours. The instructors, Barbara Cox and Ed Murphy, have an extensive background in the most current lighting controls available on the market. Please register no later than June 2nd.

CLASS CANCELLED - CALCTP Advanced Lighting Controls

Class cancelled due to low enrollment. This is a hybrid class of online training and in-classroom instruction, with an emphasis on installation of lighting controls. Each student will learn the proper forms of lighting installation and commissioning of lighting controls. Lighting controls to be covered will include photosensors, occupancy sensors, Lutron Grafik Eye and Watt Stopper, to name a few. Students required to complete prerequisite online course. Please register no later than June 2nd.

Building Automation

An introduction to Building Automation. Topics of discussion will include HVAC control devices and applications along with mechanical/control blueprint reading. Please register no later than June 2nd.

The construction industry is moving quickly towards greener, high-performing buildings, creating increased demand across the country for sustainable building skills. This course teaches the basics of sustainability and provides an overview of the essential strategies and work practices that make buildings more efficient. GPRO covers the “green gap” between standard trade skills and the new awareness required to successfully implement sustainable building practices. Please register no later than June 2nd.

Pipe Bending

This class will provide students with the opportunity to increase their conduit bending skill set and, under the expert instruction of Joe Savino, learn “secrets of the trade”. Please register no later than June 2nd.

CPR/First Aid

Do you need to be certified in CPR and First Aid? This class teaches you CPR and Rescue Breathing for infant, child and adult. You will learn skills to help choking victims and be introduced to the Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Join us to learn techniques to provide Basic First Aid through the American Heart Association. You will be provided with a two-year certification card.
